Conversation Street Episode 295
Saturday Feb 17, 2018
Saturday Feb 17, 2018
On our latest podcast, we discuss the episodes of Coronation Street broadcast between the 12th and the 16th February in the UK. Perhaps we didn't get the memo about it being Valentine's Day this week, because we certainly weren't feeling the love for this particular batch of episodes. Whether it's the the revival of Michelle's best left forgotton baby swap storyline, Toyah's continuing attempts to hide Eva's pregnancy or the many scenes of Craig's obsessive habits - yes, we get it; he has OCD! - we found that, sadly, there wasn't much to love his this week.. but if you're a fan of Gemma rants, you're in for a treat! Fortunately, things take a turn for the better in the second half of the podcast, starting with a fab interview with Kate White, a writer at Inside Soap, who gives us the scoop about what it's like to work for the UK's biggest soap magazine. That's followed by The Kabin, where we take a look at the Corrie fashion at last weekend's Archie's Footprint Ball, and launch a competition where you can win one of five copies of Maggie Sullivan's latest book, Mother's Day On Coronation Street. We round things off by hearing about some of our listeners' Corrie dreams in the feedback section.

Welcome to Episode 294 of the podcast, where we talk about everything Corrie between the 5th and the 9th February. Our top discussion point in Street Talk this week is Zeedan's contract with the Habeebs - it's a shady deal for sure, but is it about honour-based abuse as much as some people are making out? Also this week, there's a surprising match for Carla's kidney (well, surprising for us at least, as we didn't think it'd be this simple!) and Pat puts the frighteners on Steph. Next up, we do a classic character profile on Concepta Regan (warning - contains terrible and probably insensitive attempts at Irish accents!) then find out about a couple of new book releases that may be of interest to Corrie viewers in The Kabin. We round things off with some musical musings from Morgan in the feedback sections.

Saturday Feb 03, 2018
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about Coronation Street between the 29th January and the 2nd February. A great bunch of episodes this week, we thought - topped off, of course, by the return of the lovely Steph to the cobbles, who's back in town for her brother's funeral. Elsewhere, Gina turns her hand to being a mechanic (loved EVERYTHING about these scenes!), Daniel shares one of his organs with Carla (and we're not talking kidneys here), and the truth comes out about Rana and Kate. Earlier this week, we had the huge honour of being one of the few people to see the final cut of Chapter 1: Liv, the new short film starring Brooke Vincent, Sally Ann Matthews and Adam Blease, so after Street Talk, we give it our spoiler-free impressions, followed by a discussion of the possible implications of Corrie's new sponsorship deal with Costa and Co-op. We round off the show with a bit of listener feedback.

Saturday Jan 27, 2018
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 22nd and 26th January. To kick things off, we cover the outcome and aftermath of Anna's trial on Monday - though the guilty verdict was neither deserved nor unexpected, it's fair to say that we weren't exactly sad to see her banged up at the end of the episode; in fact, it was the musical montage sequence that really got our hackles up the most! Also this week, Sarah, Gail and Audrey have a nice family day out to the local lapdancing club, and there's terrible news for Toyah.. but is that an opportunity presenting itself in the form of Eva's unwanted sprog? After Street Talk, we do a character profile revisit on Anna. It was quite funny to hear some of the things we said about her last time we profiled her in Episode 30, and it's fair to say there's been a bit of a change of opinion since then! Next up, we celebrate Lucy Fallon's win and cast an eye over the red carpet fashion a the National Television Awards, then there's a voicemail and a few other emails to round off the show in the feedback section.

Saturday Jan 20, 2018
Saturday Jan 20, 2018
On our latest podcast, we jabber on about the episodes of Corrie broadcast in the UK between the 15th and the 19th January in the UK. Anna's trial kicks off this week, and it's Seb who takes the stand first - will he be able to keep his nerve? Meanwhile, Toyah's paranoias over Carla culminate in a beer-illiant fight in the Rovers, and there's a shock for Craig when he discovers Bethany's unlikely new profession. After Street Talk, we have a little feature on soap magazines, comparing Inside Soap and Soaplife's festive offerings this year, pondering what kind of market they're aimed at, and whether they do a good job. In The Kabin, we have a look at the results of some online polls that Corrie has been running this week, and discover how out of touch we seem to be with the viewing public! That's followed by the usual mix of opinions in the feedback section, and a Kabin Extra at the end of the show to discuss some surprising cast news that's recently been revealed.

Saturday Jan 13, 2018
In our latest podcast, take a look back over the episodes of Corrie broadcast between the 8th and the 12th January. All in all, it was a bit of a miserable week in Weatherfield this week, but what else can you expect when the Street's gloomiest couple are due to get wed? As Chesney ties himself in knots about whether to tie the knot, everyone else mourns the loss of Luke, following his grisly demise last Friday. Meanwhile, Eileen learns the truth about her husband's recent nefarious deeds, but does she actually believe it? After Street Talk, we take a look at Luke's four years on the Street, before finding out which characters made the most appearances on Corrie during 2017 in the Kabin. We finish off the show with some listener comments on Luke's vigil, and our first voicemail of the year.

Hope you've got a lengthy car journey or a massive pile of washing up to do, because we think we've made our longest podcast yet! In this episode, we discuss the goings on in Weatherfield between the 1st and the 5th of January. Don't you just hate it when, after spending four years on the sidelines, you're finally given something meaty to do and then you get roasted in a fiery explosion? Luke, we feel your pain - you might need some E45 cream for those burns... Elsewhere on the Street, Weatherfield's most miserable couple get dolled up for their stag and hen nights, whilst Roy has to make a big decision about just how far he's willing to go for his friendship with Carla. After Street Talk, we launch what we hope will become a proud celebratory institution, sitting alongside the likes of the Golden Raspberries: Who was the worst new character of 2017? Which storyline stretched credulity to breaking point? Who was the mardiest mare and the dirtiest dog? All these questions and more will be answered in the first ever Joni Awards! In the Kabin, we take a deep look at the fake Derek Griffiths scandal that's been gaining a lot of momentum this week, and finally, we discuss, among other hot topics, the potenial recasting of Todd in the feedback section.

The end of another year is here, and with it comes the sixth edition of the Conversation Street Awards! Which character will win our first ever Right Laff Award? Which story will be crowned That's Champion? Tune in to find out! Following the awards, we run down some of our other highlights of the year, consider how the switch to six episodes a week has turned out, and rate Kate Oates' first full year as producer. After that, it's prediction time! After running down how many we got right last year (here's a hint: not many!), we do our best Hilda impressions and see what the tea leaves have got to say about 2018.

Saturday Dec 30, 2017
Saturday Dec 30, 2017
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the Christmassy Corrie dramas between the 25th and the 29th December. They say Christmas is a time for miracles, and we certainly saw a bit of that this week, as Billy somehow survives falling off a cliff. Elsewhere, renowned lush Carla gets tongues wagging when people notice she's not been drinking, and Brian does his best to fill the Corrie Christmas cliche quota by punching a drunk in the face and spending the night behind bars. After Street Talk, there's good news for Shayne Ward in The Kabin, and we hear some listeners' thoughts about this week's racism story in the feedback section.
