Listener Questions - Episode 434

For our bonus podcast this week (the main show should be out Sunday evening!), we tackle two more of your listener questions. First off, we're asked to discuss who we'd put on our ideal Rovers bar staff teams. Well, it ends up being far too hard just whittling our potential pint puller picks down to just one bunch, so we end up musing over a good handful of options - including a few that we'd just like to see just for the sheer chaos it'd cause! Next up, we share our thoughts on which characters from the early years of Corrie have modern day equivalents. Comparing barmaids, builders and battleaxes across the ages, we ponder whether Corrie should be delving more into its history books when creating new characters, and discuss the fact that, however they may sometimes try to create modern versions of classic residents of the street, when you've got a different set of actors, sometimes the old magic is just impossible to recapture.

In our latest podcast, we share our thoughts on the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 24th and the 28th August (Episodes #10,105 - 10,107).

This week saw the unceremonious returns of Johnny and Debbie, two characters who we'd have thought might have at least texted ahead to get their families to put the kettle on. Never mind, though - what have they been up to? Well, whilst Johnny's been getting a much deserved telling off from Jenny, Debbie's role seems to be to vet the new lady in Kevin's life - as well, of course, as to misconstrue Abi's shifty, addiction-induced behaviour and presume she's messing Kev around. Also this week, Bernie, Gemma and Billy seem intent on making Paul feel as miserable as possible for most of his birthday just so they can surprise him with a couple of bowls of crisps and a signed PJ and Duncan LP, Daniel's obsession with Nicky starts to turn worryingly stalkerish, and Geoff considers investing in a cordless hoover.

The Kabin has a mixture of both sad and happy news for artists in the Corrie family, as well as a look at some of the recently announced measures that EastEnders has put in place to aid socially distanced filming. We round off the show with some feedback, including an excellent suggestion from one listener for how they would have had Gary and Maria's wedding ceremony play out.

Denise Black Interview - Conversation Street Episode 433

For this week's bonus podcast, we chat to Corrie actress Denise Black, who's played hairdresser Denise Osbourne on and off for nearly thirty years. We talk about what it was like to step onto the set of the nation's biggest soap for the first time, how unfortunate real life circumstances led to her character shacking up with Corrie stalwart Ken Barlow, and why, even after you leave the show, she believes it's still vitally important to be an ambassador for Coronation Street.

Get out your best hat because it's time for another Corrie wedding, and walking down the aisle this time - or should it just be down the conveyor belt at this point? - are Maria and Gary. Meanwhile, the Todd Squad assemble after Mary opens a letter from Eileen's runaway son asking for money, Internet parenting guru Gemma comes up with the never before thought of idea of an online video chat group for mums, and Abi's in an unconvincing predicament after a car engine falls onto her shoulder.

In the Kabin segment, we share our thoughts on some of the Corrie clip show specials that have aired in the past fortnight, then we finish things off with some tweets, emails and a new iTunes review in our feedback section.

Our Tour Of Manchester: The Final Few Days - Conversation Street Episode 432

The final part of our holiday diary sees us travel away from Manchester to visit some Corrie filming locations that were a little further afield. First off, we headed up to Blackpool to find the spot where Alan Bradley was knocked down by a tram in 1989. Then, after a chance encounter with a Corrie actor in Manchester city centre, we visit Shrewsbury Prison, the location of last year's prison riot with David and Josh.

On our slightly later than planned podcast this week, we chat about the episodes of  Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 10th and the 14th August (Episodes #10,099 - 10,101).

Everyone’s got weddings on the brain this week, and things aren’t looking too promising for either of the couples involved. Not only has Gary and Maria’s big day seemed to have sprung up out of nowhere, but with David walking in on an awks moment between his sister and the groom, it seems like ‘Winderland’ could end up having an even shorter shelf life than Sarah and Adam’s marriage. Meanwhile, Tim calls off his wedding with Sally - honestly, we wouldn’t blame her if she took the money and ran at this point! - but with Faye now witness to Geoff’s true colours, is it only a matter of time until her dad sees the light?

After our usual listener feedback section, we finish off the podcast with a Kabin Extra segment, where we chat about this week’s big casting news.

Our Tour Of Manchester Week 2 - Conversation Street Episode 431

In our second week up north, we continue our tour of Corrie filming locations past and present. From Speedwell Cavern, visited by the Rovers regulars in 1965, to more recent locales like the site of Pat Phelan's murder mill, we've got it all covered. As well as that, we check out the pub where Tony Warren wrote some of the early Coronation Street episodes, and meet up for a chat with a few more Corrie cast members. In our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 3rd and the 7th August 2020 (Episodes #10,096 - 10,098).

This week, the big question is what has Geoff done to Elaine? After an angry confrontation with her in the ginnel, the Great Magnifico makes his ex-wife disappear - but what exactly has happened to her? Meanwhile, Sarah squirms as the police question her about Gary's accident last week, Leanne struggles to hold it together when an old friend from ante-natal asks her about Oliver, and Gemma puts her foot in it with Abi.

There's not much going on news-wise this week, so we decided not to include a Kabin segment; instead, we skip over to the feedback section, where we hear from some listeners who tell us about how certain stories on Corrie at the moment are reflecting their real life experiences.

For our bonus podcast this week, we chat about our week up in Manchester, touring the city and looking for key locations linked to our favourite soap. We've checked out the remains of the old set at Quay Street, seen Corrie's new home in Media City, and visited filming locations such as Bury Football Club, St Mary's Church and Tatton Park - listen as we share our thoughts on the experience, or even better, have a watch of the YouTube version of the podcast, which is packed full of video footage we've taken on the trip!

On the latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie broadcast in the UK between the 27th and the 31st July.

 

This week, Gary does his best to cover his tracks when he realises that Bernie picked up a particularly valuable treasure during her trip to the woods, but when Sarah discovers the gruesome truth about Rick's comeuppance and tries to call the police, it's Gary's life that ends up being put on the line. Meanwhile, Ed's gutted when he finds out that Aggie can't come home for their wedding anniversary celebrations, and Elaine drops a bombshell on Tim - but is it enough to turn him away from Team Geoff?

 

In The Kabin, we share our thoughts on the news that Corrie is to return to six episodes a week in mid-September, and we finish off by hearing more of your reactions to how Corrie is tackling the pandemic, in the feedback section.
