Conversation Street Episode 639

On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown between the 29th July and the 2nd August (Episodes #11,323 - 11,327).

Not gonna lie, this was definitely a bit of a 'meh' week for us this week, despite some clearly dramatic things going down on the cobbles. From Lauren's early labour to the whodunnit surrounding the fire at Stefan's office, it was all very exciting on paper... but yeah, we just weren't really feeling it. Did that stop us having a right old laugh discussing everything that was going on, though? Of course not! And we DID get to see more of the marvellous Debbie Webster, plus we were definitely satisfied with the ongoing developments in Paul's story too! And will Alina be popping back onto the Street soon... maybe with a tiny Tyrone in tow..? Guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Very little in the way of news again this week, so we give the Kabin a miss again, but we did of course get a bundle of feedback about last week's fantastic Paul and Billy special, so we round off the episode reading out some of your thoughts.

Corrieliminator Round 4

We're back for the fourth round of Corrieliminator, the game where we pit 30 randomly selected Coronation Street characters against each other and rank them, with only the top three making it through to the final round. This month, we've got some pretty big names like Hilda Ogden and Bet Lynch going head to head, and it's battle of the battleaxes as Ena Sharples, Evelyn Plummer and Ivy Tilsely are all thrown into the mix! On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 22nd and the 26th July (Episodes #11,317 - 11,322).

This week on Coronation Street saw another special episode dedicated to Paul and Billy's storyline, and what an episode it was! Masterful performances from the two leads, and a heartbreaking script that had us on the edge of our seats as that clock ticked towards midnight... and just to keep you guys in suspense (and also to facilitate an earlier recording session for us, to be honest!), we actually left this story until last to discuss this week. Still plenty to digest from the other stories as well though, including Toyah's devastating diagnosis, Stu taking pity on Mason and Kevin and Abi's hilarious evening out at the hotel to try out Debbie's new tasting menu! And speaking of which, wasn't Debbie fantastic on Wednesday's episode? Much more of this, Corrie, please!

Tramspotting

As well as going to the red carpet for the Radio Times Soap Awards, we also got the time to spend some of our recent trip to Manchester doing another handful of Corrie related activities! From staying in the hotel that once welcomed the likes of Stephen Reid, Mike Baldwin and Tracy Barlow to visiting the shop where Gemma Winter-Brown nicked a pair of shoes from, we visit some more Corrie filming locations, and even track down the elusive Coronation Street tram!

WitH Lauren now confirmed as definitely not dead, it doesn't take long for the word to spread on the Street. Can Joel silence her before she blabs about why she's really been in hiding all this time? Lauren's not the only plucky young blonde causing bother this week either, as Betsy, not content with just blackmailing Joel, manages to get both Carla and Beth wrapped round her little finger too. Also this week, Amy signs up to the Institute, Mason's released from prison and Kit digs for dirt on Craig.

There's been a fair bit of Corrie news this week, which means a bumper edition of The Kabin, which sees us discussing stories such as the Inside Soap Awards nominations, ITV's new eBay marketplace for old costumes and props, and the reveal of Victoria Street's new Sainsbury's. We round off the show with your feedback on last week's Lauren and Joel two-hander!

Our Night At The Radio Times Soap Awards 2024

With the British Soap Awards on hiatus for 2024, the Radio Times stepped into the breach to put on a star studded show at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, and of course, we were there to snap the Corrie cast as they arrived! In this podcast, we chat about what it was like to get up close and personal to the stars on the red carpet and share a bunch of stories from the evening. It's been an incredibly busy week for us - Michael's not even been home all week and we've been in Manchester for the Radio Times Soap Awards since Friday night, so this episode of the podcast has been a bit cobbled together - typical then, that the action in this week's Coronation Street has been so discussion worthy! We've seen praise heaped upon Tuesday night's semi two-hander between Joel and Lauren, but it's also raised more than a few questions amongst viewers too, so what did we think of it? This episode is a Street Talk only podcast - no quiz, news or feedback this week as we've had next to no time to record anything, but hopefully you'll enjoy listening to it just as much as we did recording and chatting about the unfolding drama!

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street that were shown between the 1st and the 5th July 2024 (Episodes #11,301 - 11,306).

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... We thought that putting Nick and Toyah together as part of what up to that point had been a really engaging cult story was a bad move, but it turns out that was nothing compared to what Corrie had up its sleeves for poor Toyah this week. Seriously, why does everything have to get so depressing? Definitely not fans of this week's developments! At least there were moments of levity in some of the other stories. Shona wagging off work in an attempt draw Roy out from his self-imposed prison was great fun, and we loved Steve, Cassie and Tim's capers with Tommy Orpington's bust too. (Heh heh... "Bust") And at least it seems like the Shuttleworths at war story is over for now too and the pair can go back to being nice to each other again. Every cloud, eh?

Not a whole lot in the way of Corrie news this week, but we do have a bit of a chat about the news that Thelma Barlow has come out of retirement for a role in in a 20-minute short film. Now can we just get a 20-minute return to Weatherfield for Mavis, please? We'd take 15..! We round off the podcast with more of your feedback.

2024: Our Reflections On The Year So Far

We've reached the start of July, so it's time to discuss our thoughts on 2024 so far! We didn't seem to get too far into the year before the knives really started coming out for Corrie in the press, and the show's been having to try and deflect a lot of criticism aimed at it since, but how much of it is really justified? In this episode, we chat about our favourite and least favourite stories of the year, ponder which characters have come out of the first six months of the year best, and discuss the behind the scenes shakeups including a new producer, and what this could mean for Corrie as it moves into the second half of the year.

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie airing on Monday 24th and Friday 28th June (Episodes #11,297 - 11,300).

Overall this was a pretty good week, we thought, which isn't always the case when the Winter-Browns are headlining! However, some excellent performances by Dolly-Rose Campbell and the addition of Kit as he saves her from prison really helped us to enjoy this week's A-story, plus we're always suckers for a bit of location shooting too! Elsewhere on the Street, we're finally introduced to DS Swain's daughter Betsy, who looks set to be a real troublemaker; Glenda and George's spat is too much for Michael to bear; and Tim has a big decision to make when it comes to how he's going to be spending Steve's birthday - we sense a bust-up at the bust unveiling is imminent! 

Next on the podcast, it's time for The Kabin - it's good new for Corrie as they triumph at the TRIC Awards, plus the announcement of an official 'Audience With Claire King' event for Emmerdale fans has us speculating whether something similar could be on the cards for Corrie fans in the future.. We round off the show with a great selection of feedback from listeners including a voicemail and a new iTunes review!
