For this week's bonus podcast, we chat about modern Corrie legend Evelyn Plummer, a character who is unbelievably about to hit her five-year anniversary on the show! It was certainly a massive coup for Coronation Street to secure an actress like Maureen Lipman back in 2018, and comparisons to former Weatherfield battleaxes would be inevitable. Five years on and Evelyn is easily one of our favourite characters on the show, has shown what makes her different from the likes of Blanche and Ena, and we had a blast reminiscing about some of her best moments so far when we recorded this episode. Not content with covering issues surrounding acid attacks, catfishing and steroid abuse, Ryan's story is given another topic to tackle this week - the topic OF his tackle and whether he should be getting it out for all and sundry to see online if they're willing to stump up the cash. Meanwhile, Paul and his rapidly declining condition are back in the spotlight this week - is Billy being a bit too overbearing in how he's dealing with his fiancé's decreased mobility, and is he really going to get the bishop to turn a blind eye to the rule book so that they can get married in a church? Also this week, Todd and George's childish spats lead to Rest Easy gaining a new employee, Ronnie buys some shares in the brewery, and Jenny's chuffed to be taken out by Stephen - and it only seems like a matter of time now until he gets his hands on the Rovers!

The Kabin this week covers a few small news items and a couple of attempts by the tabloids to drum up some drama with talk of soap axeings on the horizon, and we finish things off with a bit of feedback.

Conversation Street Episode 589

On our latest podcast, we chat about what went on in Weatherfield between the 14th and the 18th August (Episodes #11031 - #11036).

We were excited to see Evelyn and Cassie return to the cobbles this week, and the story of Tyrone's real mum reconnecting with him was just as gripping as it was when it was left off a few months ago, helped in no small part by some brilliant performances by the main cast members. With Cassie now staying at No. 9, we're sure there'll be plenty of opportunity for drama with the neighbours in the next few weeks, but will Tyrone be able to forgive Evelyn? Meanwhile Stephen manages to wriggle his way out of another tight corner when he successfully snags the telltale tiepin from Lou's room - but he might regret making an enemy of Peter in the process. Also this week, Lauren makes a surprise proposition to Roy, Debbie discovers some surprising news about the brewery and Ryan's roid rage rises.

Not a whole lot of news this week, but we do at least have the NTA shortlist to mull over in The Kabin, and we finish off the podcast with more of your emails.

The race is on to save the Rovers this week when Jenny's attempts to convince the brewery's accountants that it's a good investment fail. Now, we don't reckon there are many viewers who think there's a chance the pub might actually be demolished, but we still enjoyed drama surrounding whether or not the Newtons would change their minds - not least because it gave plenty of screen time to our beloved Henry! Meanwhile, Stu's not happy to discover that Eliza's been secretly chatting with her dad online - can Dom really be trusted? Also this week, newbie Ruby wins the lead role in Glenda's production, Shona gets a new comrade in barms, and a stray tie pin found by Rufus' pool risks landing Stephen in hot water.

For this week's bonus podcast, we raid the old mail bag and pull out two more of your listener questions to have a good old natter about! First off, we spend a good hour or so pondering which characters are now quite different to how they were when they first appeared on the Street, and for what reasons. We're sure most Corrie viewers could name some personalities that have altered - for better and for worse! - over the years, so do our picks match yours? After that, we're tasked with coming up with some modern takes on classic Corrie stories. Are there any storylines from the 60s or 70s that would work today, and what modern spin would we put on them? This one actually turned out to be quite tricky as so many early stories HAVE been redone in one way or another, but we gave it our best shot!

After all her sneaking about trying to hide the true identity of her unborn baby's father, it was only a matter of time before Sarah's lies would catch up with her - we weren't expecting it to be this early, mind you! With Adam finding out the truth and revealing it to the family on Monday, things didn't seem like they could get any worse for Sarah, and then Wednesday happened... Things are looking pretty bleak for Jenny this week too, but a very welcome return on Friday's episode could well prove to be the saviour she's looking for! We're back from our holidays and all caught up on last week's Corrie, so in this episode of the podcast, we chat about what went down on the cobbles between the 24th and the 28th July (Episodes #11013 - 11017)

This week, with Elaine disappearing off to Scarborough, you might have been wondering which storyline Stephen would be meddling in next. Thanks to a bit of a weird flashback sequence on Wednesday, though, it turns out he's already been laying the groundwork for interfering in Sarah and Adam's paternity dramas! So many great twists and turns there, and once again, we have to say that what could have been a standard affair / who's the daddy storyline is still feeling surprisingly fresh! Meanwhile, Aadi's getting himself into some real hot water as he continues to dance to Courtney's tune - is this a comedy story? Something serious about an innocent teen being groomed? A steamy summer love affair? Turns out we have plenty to say about this one, either way! Meanwhile, Ryan's back and getting himself jacked, Paul's second encounter with Shelly gets him considering his future and Todd gets a Stiffy.

Conversation Street Episode 585

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 17th and the 21st July (Episodes #11007 - 11012).

This week was the very definition of a mixed bag! We're big fans of Spider and Toyah and have missed their lack of presence on the show for most of the year, but when the powers that be decide to include them, this is what we get? A farcical, zero tension hostage scene followed by Spider choosing the force over his fiancée? We'd say words fail us, but we certainly managed to get a good discussion out of it in the podcast! Then on the other side of the coin, you've got the Stephen storyline - now we're not going to say that's not farcical either, but we were on the edge of our seats with that plot this week! Who knew that Elaine actually had a backbone, and what on earth is Stephen going to do now? Also this week, Paul is apprehensive about his MND support group visit, Aadi attracts the attentions of his new boss' wife, and Brian finally gets rid of Isabella.
